Oct 14, 2008 - The Lakers were originally in Detroit, but didnt get their name there as many think they did since there are many lakers, or lake transport/cargo ships, a ship with a very unique design. They were limited to the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence waterway. Serch up a picture of one. The Lakers got their name while in Minnesota, the Land O' Lakes, the State of 10,000 lakes.
