Dec 1, 2008 - ricksparks, please read the many hints by Paul and Peter that the old laws are no longer kept by Christians. Many OT laws are for the Jews, not Christians just like circumcision.Israelites was oppressed be it by Egyptians or Canaanites (during that time, even Canaanites are subordinates to the Egyptian Empire), they successfully rebelled and established their own Kingdom, of course they would record to state a new beginning as the 1st five bks of OT mentioned clearly.
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - There is no "god" to tell anything to. The whole concept of such a being as put forth by the "bible" is ludicrous. Why do you need religion to be happy? Can't you be a good person without fear of some kind of everlasting torture upon death?
bpwong85 Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - ricksparks, and of course the bible is used to control people. The term 'law' is for the reader to obey and not read as a story book.Even Bible was not given to the crowd. It was only until Martin Luther's protest against the Catholic Church that every Christians has their own bible.Sucker? =) Anyway, your argument still lacks of solid skepticism. Please improve if you wish to argue further. By insulting won't make you wiser. =)
bpwong85 Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - ricksparksmyou don't need a 'God' to tell anything to is a fact as that's free-will & even Christians agree. No one claims you need religion as the only means to be happy. Stop assuming things. Can all be prone to be moral when there's no law at all? If that's so, we can abolish all civil laws and destroy all police stations as well. Fear is needed as a matter of fact to maintain law & order.
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - Your religion claims all MUST believe in "god" or be punished FOREVER in some kind of hellish afterlife - a state of being which has NEVER been proven to exist and is a concept stolen from much older myths (Hades, etc). If that's not control, what do you call it?I reject your notion that humans aren't "perfect" without "god." A "god" has NEVER been proven to be real. As such, the idea that one needs a NOTHING to be whole is idiotic.Churches preach mental enslavement to false claims.
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - I sincerely doubt you were a "full blown atheist" - you committed yourself to religious idiocy before you were old enough to understand what you were doing. Now that you're older, years of brainwashing have clouded your ability to reason.Look at the comment closely, weirdo. I asked you a QUESTION.Fucking religious idiots. Rarely able to reason, and even less able to read properly.Let's try again: If you have a child, will you tell it a "god" exists?
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - Why do you assume that death without the promise of some kind of afterlife means life is meaningless? Have you ever made a stranger smile? Have you ever helped someone who dropped something in a store? Have you ever written a poem, a play, a song, etc? Have you ever built something that no one else has made? You call religion truth. And yet, it is based upon stories bastardized and stolen from their original, much older mythological forms. -- continued --
liolichka Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - I see you don't believe in God at all...I'm just wondering what are you going to do or say if it turns out at the end that there is God, heaven, hell...?
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - Everything in the "bible" that IS moral (don't kill, be kind to neighbors, etc) was moral LONG before the book was written. You didn't read the ten commandments for the first time and exclaim, "Oh, yeah! I never THOUGHT of that!"However, you ignore the "bible's" EVIL calls -DESTROY those who do not believe. Put to DEATH a child who strikes or curses his parents. KILL anyone who works on a Saturday. Etcetera.Calling the "bible" moral is like calling Rosie O'Donnell slightly overweight.
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - That's a pretty big "IF" you're flinging around there. I do not expect to have such a thing happen and have made little in the way of plans. "Heaven," "Hades (Hell)," and a monotheistic "god" were derived from older, also untrue myths. Any "god" that behaved in the way the "bible" describes doesn't deserve the title. If I told YOU there were invisible lizards living among us and that if you don't believe in them your soul will be TORTURED FOREVER in some kind of afterlife, would you worry?
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - That's a mindless argument. If it weren't for the fact that religious doctrine is pervasive throughout society, there would be no "coming to" religion taking place!Real atheists don't wish for an invisible man in the sky... err, everywhere... err, on a cross... err, metaphorically... anyway!.... People who are raised with no exposure to religion do NOT seek a religion to follow. Up until you converted, and from that moment as well, you were and have continued to be GROOMED for it. Sucker.
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - You have to understand; I want a better world. Religion does NOT help accomplish that task. It blinds what would otherwise be rational humans beings from reason and it instills in the faithful an absolute set of ideas about the nature of the universe which is deciet at best and outright evil at worst - what with all the threats of torture upon DEATH that it comes with.Religion supports slavery, bigotry, sexism, and homophobia. It also clouds minds on the issue of abortion. That's GOOD?
uguglyizer Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - You are rapping Christianity into the "Religion" bubble. Christians do not support slavery, bigotry, sexism, or homophobia. Christianity is about love, and we are commanded by god to love everyone from all walks of life. I appreciate you coming on here and debating. This would show that you are at least open to hearing about the true ways of Jesus Christ.
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - You sure? Last time I checked, the New Testament says NOTHING to dissuade folks from following the edicts of the OT. That means you are not a true believer.By the way, don't worry too much about that. So much of the "bible" is contradictory that it is IMPOSSIBLE to be a true follower. All you can do is try.Loving everyone is fine, but do you also tell people they must convert to your way of thinking or they'll be tortued forever upon death? If so, that's NOT love. That's control.
megmut Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - You can be a true believer.. its not hard.Surrender your life to jesus, folow Him, and do everything he tells you.. and most importantly.. LOVE HIM! were all sinners.. were all human.. but Jesus payed that price for us.. he died for me.. he died for you uguglyizer and everyone who is reading this comment.. i am a fully faithful and true believer.. and he has told me so him self :) God Bless everyone !
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - You can be smarter. It's not hard.Examine the fact that "Jesus" as described in the "bible" NEVER existed. Since he never existed, he doesn't tell anyone anything. THERE'S NOTHING TO LOVE. "Sin" is a concept invented by mostly anonymous writers of the "bible" to subjugate the masses and make people of all social status follow the edicts of religious leaders. By the way, human sacrifice is kinda gross. Every time I see a person with a cross I see a person with a mental disability.-cont-
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - How old were you when you were first exposed to religion - seven? Eight? How old were you when you were told you would BURN FOREVER in Hades... er, hell (I forgot, you probably don't realize "hell" is a concept stolen by the "bible" from much older myths)? All of the "miracles" attributed to "Jesus" were also stolen from much older myths. Even little details. Did you know Hindu's Krishan receved GOLD, FRANKINCENSE, and MYRRH as a gift when he was born, THOUSANDS of years before "Jesus?"
bcoppadge90 Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - Just out of curiosity... and im not pointing fingers or trying to argue against your point. But have you ever read the Bible and if so how much of it?
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - I've read the entirety of the "bible" three times. It was the 2nd time when I noticed the book was more congruous when taken in small snippets, rather than as a whole. It was later when I realized the real reason for that discrepancy; so it could be used at a line-by-line basis in order to garner control over people. In one passage, the "bible" says NOT to answer a fool, lest you might believe his folly. Yet, in another passage, it says DO answer a fool so he doesn't think his folly is wise.
ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - That should be KRISHNA, not "Krishan."Krishan sounds like the name of a Middle Eastern candy bar."KRISHAN! Tell one of your many subjugated wives to buy you some today!!"
carystalnn Says:

Dec 1, 2008 - I think i've had one of those. From albania mabye. And this is just food for thought. The Bible has been translated from siveral different languages so a lot of original literature has been lost in translation. I would like to one day learn the original language the bible was written in. Although I think it might have been written in several languages.
FlamingPenguinFilms Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - No, because that would be sin. God would still love you if you killed a man and still worshipped him, but that does not stop you from being punished. That is non-Christian and until you confess your sin and swear to go about in a Christain life, you are held accountable for that sin.God Bless.
liolichka Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - You compare God to some possible myth about some lizards..well, you are right, people will not believe that; however, would such myth survive for over 8000 years? Would people die for it? God's existence is not an "IF", and I am really worried for you because our life is not in our hands-you never know when it will end.And also...Christians are not believing in God just from fear of hell, once you come to God you will realize that everything else cannot even be called real life!

ricksparks Says:
Dec 1, 2008 - Here's the cute thing about what you wrote: The "Garden of Eden" story was tacked onto the beginning of the "bible" YEARS after the Canaanites who wrote the book of Moses finished their verses. You DO know the "bible" was written by people trying to create a new history for themselves after they rebelled violently against an upper-class caste system, yes? And that hundreds of years later it was appropriated into the current religions we are familiar with?Yes? No?Sucker.
