There are record shops catering to every type of music in Japan, and indie groups are as popular as major artists. The major rock festivals of Japan are a testament to that, with indie groups headlining with major acts, along with the music venues flooded with all types of bands, both indie and major. And this isn't "emo" it is called "post rock"
