Dec 1, 2008 - One of the best films I've ever seen. It's not a cheap Hollywood sponsored-by-the-US-military-psyop, or a cheap film teaching teenagers to promiscuous etc etc. It's just epic. It made my girlfriend cry for half an hour.

Dec 2, 2008 - In the movie McCandless finds some kind of an answer before his last moments. He asks us, would any of us trade for anything (including one's family, one's identity, and all the anguish that followed when he was sick) had they seen what he sees right before his death. The answer obviously is a "No" in the movie, which noone will ever know in actuality. But I figure in the movie it is some kind of a metaphore similar to Nervana.

Dec 2, 2008 - McCandless's death is portrayed as being without regret. He freed himself from obligations of being a member of society, furthermore a bond and responsibility of being a family member. Kind of like Siddharta. He may have found his answers in his short lived life, but such selfish act leaves others in despair. Such is the irony of the movie. McCandless is unbound by the chains of materialism, community, and identity, however leaves behind those who knew, loved, and nurtured him in agony.

Dec 2, 2008 - I know Im smart enough that if I decided to walk into the woods in alaska Id maybe bring a compass or a fucking gun or something
Michelwankt Says:
Dec 2, 2008 - you don't understand the intention he had..And by the way... he didn't want a compass and he actually had a gun with him...
ShipThemHome Says:
Dec 2, 2008 - Im wrong he did have a gun.I know Im just a narrowminded asshole. I read this book about 10 years ago and I found it interesting. I just think if you look at the situation and what he did it was a bit moronic and arrogant. I mean the kid is dead and why?. Well he ventured off into the wilderness that if you arent trained and disiplined you are going to die. The wilderness isnt a place for soul searching hippies to play poetry with. Its amazing a bear didnt eat him

Dec 3, 2008 - Ha, I say he wasted his whole life. He's been giving everything, yet he rejects it. To me, that's ignorant. He is selfish, only thinking of himself and not what strain and pain he put his family through. He should use that bright head of his and think.

Dec 3, 2008 - all of you that say he's an idiot for going and dying in the wild, you're all retarded. first of all, how many of you have actually read the book? and secondly, that's the whole fucking point. this is a culmination between the trancendental and the naturalist mindsets. he transcends society and survives on as little as possible while subsisting as long as he can on his own in the wilderness.
xkurtmanx Says:
Dec 4, 2008 - wow maybe if you took the time out, you would be smart enough to realize he did take a gun. and when you decide to live in the wilderness for more than two months, thats what you should do.

Dec 4, 2008 - true is that many of us think that they need some adventure but not everone is so brave to go for His adventure;)Sory for my language im not Eng. or AMer.

Dec 4, 2008 - I think you're both right. You can't dismiss his whole character just by wtaching a movie trailer, I've read the book, he had this amazing journey, not all of us in life can live in the structured, restrained way that society has set out for us. so you're right, but on the other hand, he did cause people he loved pain, he did make some irrational decsisions, so we have to have a lot of perspective as well as understanding and respect when we look at the brave and bold things that he did. fair?
