Now the world is facing many challenges in terms of supporting an economic upturn and at the same time enduring changes to our power supply change to tackle global warming. Our recent energy needs are met almost entirely by oil, gas and coal. The problem is the incineration of these types of fossil fuel fuel is responsible for amplified global temperatures. Fossil fuels are a form of trapped carbon from deep underground. When we burn up these fuels we are re-introducing carbon back into the surroundings. The carbon in the surroundings acts like a gigantic mirror, reflecting the suns power back at the globe. Therefore we need to go away from carbon positive fuels on to more carbon neutral, and possibly carbon negative fuels. Biomass is any form of natural material, which can be used as a fuel source. This includes wood waste from lumber processing which has traditionally being turned into pellets. Premium fuel pellets are the maximum grade of wood pellet fuel. Premium fuel pellets are fashioned mainly from pine and spruce residues.

Pellets stoves and boilers are used to burn wood pellets competently to warmth homes and businesses. Pellet stoves are used to heat single rooms or give extra heating to the rest of the home. Both units work on the principle of a pellet hopper, auger feed system and burn pot. The auger controls the tempo of pellet feed to control the temperature of the fire. The burn pot also has a hot rod starting to ignite the fire. Therefore wood pellets provide a very low upkeep way to heat with wood. Also wood pellets burn much more proficiently than say logs, premium pellet fuel can produce as little as 0.5% ash content.

A pellet press is the key piece of tackle when production wood pellets. There are a variety of different designs of pellet press, however the theory of all the designs remains pretty much the same. The pellet configuration takes place in the die. A die is a piece of metal a few inches in depth with holes drilled through to form the pellet. The size of the holes depends on the purpose of the pellets. For example pellets for pellet stoves are typically 6mm in diameter, however pellet boilers can use a larger diameter of pellet up to 8mm. To compact the wood through the die to form pellets a chain of rollers compress the material through the holes in the die. When the pellets leave the die they are awfully hot, and must be cooled before they can be used. Not all pellets produced are of the same quality. A quality pellet should have a exterior shine, and break cleaning into only a few pieces.

Today there is a progressive advance away from traditional forms of power and dwelling heating.

Currently the most universal forms of residence heating is by way of the use of gas, heating oil and finally coal. However these forms of fossil fuel energy are partly to blame for our rising worldwide temperatures. Fossil fuels are a form of trapped carbon from thousand and millions of years ago. As we remove these fuels and then carry on to burn them, we then place this formerly trapped carbon back into the atmosphere.

This increases the normal level or carbon in the environment. Carbon acts like a reflector, as the suns energy enters the environment, carbon then reflects some of this energy back at the world. By rising the level of carbon we are growing the amount of ————— that is reflected back at the earth, this then leads to increased global temperatures. We therefore need to adopt energy forms that are either part of the recent carbon cycle, or do not affect it.

Forms of energy such as wind and solar energy are traditionally thought of as ?green? energy, and they will play an important role in power generate. The difficulty is they are not competent ways to generate fuel for heating purposes. There are other ways to capture the suns power and energy from the ground to heat properties, these includes solar heat collection tubes, and geothermal units. However equally these forms of equipment can only be used as supplemental forms of heating in mild to cold climates.

Biomass is the most realistic form of green fuel for heating solutions, as it can meet up the whole heating requirement of the property and is on demand. Biomass in heating applications is typically in the form of wood, however other resources such as straws and grasses can be used, more research is needed in these areas however. The most rationally and efficient way to utilize biomass as a heating fuel is to upgrade it into pellets.

Pellets are formed from biomass, are merely biomass in a compressed form. Pellets resemble a small cylinder, alike to a colouring crayon. Pellets squeeze the biomass into a consistent shape, size and density. It is these properties that make pellets the perfect heating fuel. Due to their regular shape and size, it is very easy to feed pellets into a burning zone, at a synchronized and proscribed rate. As pellets have a high density and mass, they also pass through well though hoppers and feed systems. Sawdust and wood chips have issues going through hoppers, which often results in bridging issues, which stops the current of fuel. Also a sawdust or wood chip hopper has to be a good deal large to hold the same value of fuel.

Pellet stoves and boilers come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. From very small units to heat single rooms, to very big pellet boilers to heat factories.
